Judd Trump can defy the odds to upset O’Sullivan at the Masters

In recent years, the Masters has been referred to as the Ronnie O’Sullivan pension fund.
The Rocket has won the tournament in three of the last four years and is 5/4 for an eighth victory in the competition.
This year, though, we think that there could be a new name on the trophy.
Step forward Judd Trump.
The Juddernaut was impressive in his 6-4 quarter-final win against Liang Wenbo and deserves attention in the market at 4/1.
He showed resilience and character to hold off a fightback from the Chinese ace after initially going 5-1 up in the contest.
Wenbo brought the score back to 5-4 but could not do anything about an 85 break from the Bristol-born potter to seal the contest.
Trump showed in that contest glimpses of what makes him such an exciting player to watch.
He’s fast, unerring and able to reel off frames at a rate which puts opponents into a tailspin.
On his day the 28-year-old has the talent to match and eclipse the quality epitomised by players like O’Sullivan and the retired Stephen Hendry.
He’s already won the European Masters this season and will be eager to exceed his best run at this tournament which has twice ended in semi-final defeat.
The Ace in the Pack has the beating of the players in his side of the draw.
And he’s shown before that he has what it takes to see off O’Sullivan in a major final.
With that in mind, we think Trump is excellent value to land his first Masters crown.
2015 champion Shaun Murphy is available at 11/1, with Mark Allen and Barry Hawkins rounding out the sub-20/1 contenders at 14/1 and 18/1 respectively.
