Huddersfield v Liverpool: Pressure is on Klopp’s men to bounce back

Published:

After two defeats on the spin, Liverpool head to Huddersfield Town tonight knowing the pressure is very much on.

After beating Manchester City in a 4-3 thriller a fortnight ago, Jurgen Klopp’s men have since lost to Swansea City in the Premier League and West Bromwich Albion in the FA Cup.

They play top-four rival Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday too, meaning tonight’s trip to Yorkshire and Klopp’s former Borussia Dortmund ally David Wagner is pivotal.

Despite their recent blip, our traders make the Anfield side 3/10 favourites for the win.

Hosts Huddersfield have struggled after making a strong start to their first year in the Premier League.

The Terriers have failed to win their last six Premier League games, and are chunky outsiders at 10/1 this evening. The draw is 21/5.

As is usually the case with Liverpool, goals are expected. The Reds’ league fixtures have averaged 3.46 goals this term, a tally beaten only by Manchester City.

They drew a blank versus Swansea last time out, but Liverpool have scored two or more in seven of their last eight away games.

And with Wagner’s Huddersfield keeping just one clean sheet in their last eight, it’s an appealing 20/23 for Liverpool to win and for the match to see more than 2.5 goals.

The 17/20 about an away win on the -1 handicap should also be worth consideration.

Mohamed Salah missed a penalty when these sides met at Anfield in October, but that was a rare blip for the scintillating Egyptian.

The 25-year-old has bagged 25 goals in all competitions this term, and kept up his form by netting at the weekend. We make Salah 3/1 favourite to score first, and Evens anytime.

Better value could lie with Roberto Firmino, however. The Brazilian scored in the reverse meeting on Merseyside, and also netted on Saturday. It’s 7/2 he breaks the deadlock tonight, while he’s 23/20 to score at any time.
