Celtic transfer news

As we head into the January window, Celtic are hoping to fend off Aberdeen in the Ladbrokes Premiership title race, and progress in the Europa League.

Their season could boosted by the signing of Marvin Compper from RB Leipzig. The German has been in Glasgow to finalise a move to Parkhead.

So, what can Celtic fans expect from the man who looks set to don the famous green-and-white hoops?

A ton of pedigree

There are some big names at Celtic Park, but Compper’s CV would still be one of the most impressive at the club.

The experienced defender has made 195 Bundesliga outings, with three different clubs. He was a key man for Leipzig last term, playing 25 times as Die Bullen finished second in their first ever top-flight campaign.

Having also spent time with Italian side Fiorentina, and played for the German national team, the 32-year-old has had quite the career already.

Add the fact he’s featured in the Champions League and Europa League previously, and it seems Hoops fans could have a new hero on their hands.

Classy, powerful and a goal threat

While he’s in his twilight years, Compper still has a great deal to give – as he’s proved at the Red Bull Arena.

A strong and commanding presence at the heart of defence, the former Hoffenheim man has proved himself as a player you can always count on.

Last season, he boasted an impressive record in one-on-one duels, as well as an 80% passing accuracy. A classy long-range passer of the ball, he’ll suit Celtic’s ethos of playing it out from the back.

As for the icing on the cake – he’s netted five league goals since the start of 2015-16, including a couple of vital winners.

With this deal seemingly very close to completion, Hoops fans could be set for an early Christmas present!

Celtic are looking to return to winning ways against Partick Thistle on Wednesday night. Brendan Rodgers’ men are 1/9 for victory at Parkhead.
