Walcott, Sturridge and Giroud all priced up for Newcastle move

The next few weeks will prove pivotal to the future of Newcastle United.

On the pitch, the Magpies are tumbling towards the relegation zone. Off it, they’re continuing negotiations over a potential £300m buyout.

Rafa Benitez has seen his side endure an eight-game winless streak, with problems in both defence and attack.

They’ve failed to score seven times this season, often against bottom-half opposition.

But there are a number of strikers who the Toon Army could – and should – make a beeline for when the January transfer window opens.

Theo Walcott – 7/4

The Arsenal striker’s career in North London appears to be fading to a drab ending.

Despite being fit for most of the campaign, Walcott has played just 46 minutes of Premier League football.

His pace and energy would revitalise Newcastle’s forward play. Walcott has a World Cup spot to aim for too, so would surely revel in regular first-team football.

Daniel Sturridge – 5/2

With so much competition for a place at Liverpool, Daniel Sturridge’s best hope of kick-starting his career is surely elsewhere.

The 28-year-old should be entering his peak years, so he needs to make the most of it.

Like Walcott, the England international would thrive if given a primary role in the North-East. His own chances of a World Cup spot are also doomed unless he takes a chance somewhere outside of Anfield.

Danny Ings – 3/1

Danny Ings faces an almighty battle to get first-team football at Liverpool.

Like Sturridge, he’s behind Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, Philippe Coutinho and Mohamed Salah in the fight for Jurgen Klopp’s affections.

The former Burnley man is prime for a mid-season move to kick-start a career which has been blighted by injuries.

Ings knows how to put the ball in the net, and that’s exactly what Newcastle need right now.

Benik Afobe – 4/1

The Bournemouth striker has been reduced to a bit-part role at Dean Court, and could well be considering his options.

Afobe is still only 24-years-old, so this wouldn’t be a short-term stop gap. He still has a point to prove in the top tier, and his power and energy would be welcomed on Tyneside.

Olivier Giroud – 5/1

This is the unlikely deal according to the odds, but Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud is certainly open to offers this January.

The Frenchman is aware that his continued use as Arsene Wenger’s Plan B is hindering his hopes of playing for his country in Russia.

French players have often thrived at St James’ Park. David Ginola, Yohan Cabaye and Laurent Robert are just a few who have sent the crowd into raptures.

Giroud’s composure and link-up play could be just the ticket for the Toon.
