St Mirren v Dundee Utd: Expect goals to flow for Champ’s top two

The Ladbrokes Championship’s top two face off in front of the BT Sport cameras on Friday night. St Mirren have been top of the tree this Christmas, but Dundee United are best in the form table.

So, how’s this one likely to pan out?

First off, a flurry of goals looks likely. The Buddies have scored in eight of their last nine games, while United have registered in eight on the spin.

Each of the last five meetings between these clubs has also produced a minimum of three goals. Over 2.5 Goals looks a safe bet at 4/5, but we prefer the look of Over 3.5 at 2/1.

St Mirren’s last three games have seen a total of six goals netted before the interval – three scored, and as many conceded.

As for the Tangerines, they’ve scored four times before the break in their last trio of matches. That means Both Teams to Score in First Half looks appealing at 17/5.

In the goalscorer markets, there’s one standout name in both camps.

United’s Scott McDonald is in fine form, scoring in three of his last five outings. Add the fact the Australian has four career goals against the Buddies already, and he looks good value to add to that tally Anytime at 9/5.

For the Paisley club, young forward Cameron Smith has scored in three games on the trot. At 12/5 to Score Anytime, he could be well worth backing.

With both sides in strong form, we think the Draw at 23/10 is the best call in the match betting. St Mirren are available at 2/1, with United 5/4.

However, with goals on the cards, it’s the 13/4 for a Score Draw which could prove the value bet.

If you’re in the market for a lively longshot, we’ve got one of those too…

The Buddies have picked up nine points from trailing positions already this term. With United typically stronger before the break, the 14/1 on Half-Time/Full-Time: Dundee United/Draw looks appealing.
