Meet the Bundesliga star who could be Man United’s left-back solution

Published:

Manchester United are after a new left back, but that’s an open secret.

But the bigger issue is just who Jose Mourinho actually ends up welcoming to Old Trafford.

It could be Alex Sandro, it could be Danny Rose.

Or it could be Augsburg ace Philipp Max.

The 24-year-old is making waves in the Bundesliga with a string of excellent displays.

Max has played every minute of league action for the Fuggerstadter.

But the reason he is attracting attention from a whole host of Premier League clubs is his forward play.

The German has provided 10 goals for team-mates this season, an astonishing record for a left-back only halfway through the campaign.

Max spent three years as a youth player at Bayern Munich, before moving to Schalke, and then Karlsruher.

He joined Augsburg in 2015 and signed a contract extension last summer.

It’s believed Man United have already sent scouts to watch him.

Ashley Young is currently the deputy left-back at Old Trafford, but a successor is needed for the 32-year-old, and it won’t be Luke Shaw.

Max could be the ideal signing, and he’d be cheap too.

Valued at just £4.5m by transfermarkt.co.uk, he wouldn’t make a dent in United’s bank balance.

Especially as they’re likely to cash in on Shaw next month anyway.

Mourinho may need to move fast though. Manchester City and Chelsea have been linked with Max too.
