Lazio lynchpin Milinkovic-Savic continues to court Man United attention

There could be some major changes in the Manchester United midfield in the coming months.

According to reports in Italy, the Red Devils are still chasing Lazio star Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

The 22-year-old has been running the show for the Serie A side this season.

And his performances have gone a long way to helping Lazio enjoy their best campaign in years.

Man United boss Jose Mourinho is reportedly keen to make changes in midfield.

Michael Carrick is nearing the end of his career, while Marouane Fellaini and Ander Herrera are both out of contract next summer.

The later may well move on for nothing, having started just five Premier League games this season. And four of those only came about thanks to Paul Pogba’s injuries.

Mourinho likes a big powerhouse of a player. Just look at his summer signings, Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic.

At 6ft 3in, Milinkovic-Savic fits the bill nicely. The Serbian is no slouch though, conjuring five goals and two assists this term.

Man United reportedly sent scouts to watch the former Genk man in Lazio’s 2-1 victory over Sampdoria last weekend.

Milinkovic-Savic will surely have impressed by netting the equaliser before playing a crucial role for his side’s last-gasp winner.

He won’t come to Old Trafford cheaply though. Lazio have their man tied to a contract until 2022.

Already valued at almost £30m by transfermarkt.co.uk, any deal will quickly reach £50m+.

But if he is the man to help United get on par with near neighbours Man City, then Mourinho will surely see it as a shrewd investment.
