Here’s what Tottenham need to do in the January window

January is a pivotal moment of the season for most teams. The January transfer window opens and that gives sides the opportunity to improve.

For some, it can make or break the next six months of the campaign.

The Ladbrokes News team are profiling all 20 Premier League clubs.

Here it’s Tottenham Hotspur’s turn to go under the spotlight…

What they need

Mostly, Spurs just need to keep their most important players fit.

Toby Alderweireld is currently out injured and he’s their best defender. Spurs have struggled a little in his absence.

Victor Wanyama has also been a big loss when he’s missed games. Bolstering the squad with some defensive reinforcements could pay dividends.

Who they’re targeting?

Valencia star Geoffrey Kondogbia and Benfica’s rampaging Alejandro Grimaldo have both linked to the club. And they would both make sense.

Kondogbia is a big, powerful central midfielder who dominates. And Grimaldo is a modern-day full-back who can get up and down the left side.

Who they might lose?

It’d be a huge surprise if Spurs lost anyone in midfield. The squad isn’t big enough to cope with the demands of the Premier League and Champions League campaigns.

Josh Onomah – currently on-loan at Aston Villa – may even return to London.

Final Thought

Pochettino relies too heavily on a core group of 13-14 players. If he loses the likes of Alderweireld and Wanyama for any length of time, the side suffer.

To make progress, another midfielder and a quality centre-half are imperative.
