Here’s our Premier League Team of the Season so far

We’re nearing the halfway point of the Premier League season. And it looks like Manchester City’s title to lose.

After winning a record 16 straight league games, Pep Guardiola’s side are 11 points clear. They’re huge 1/33 favourites to be top at the end of the campaign.

They’re playing some of the most exciting football the top flight has ever seen. Many of their players are in the form of their careers.

We’ve put together a Team of the Season so far. Unsurprisingly, it’s dominated by players from the blue half of Manchester.

Goalkeeper: David de Gea

City and United have both conceded just 12 goals this season. City number one Ederson has instantly taken to English football. But United’s David de Gea has been the busier of the two.

He made several jawdropping saves in a heroic display against Arsenal. He’s also made the most saves (69) and kept the most clean sheets (10) in the division.

Right-back: Cesar Azpilicueta

Alongside his defensive duties, Azpilicueta has formed a formidable link with Chelsea new-boy Alvaro Morata.

All five of his assists (the most of any defender in the league) have set the Spanish striker up to score.

Centre-back: Nicolas Otamendi

After a stuttering start to his career in Manchester, Otamendi has solidified his position in City’s backline now.

Playing out from the back and scoring a couple of vital goals along the way, Pep Guardiola will be delighted with his Argentine rock.

 Centre-back: James Tarkowski

Michael Keane’s departure could have been a serious blow for Burnley. But James Tarkowski stepped up to fill the gap seamlessly.

With the 25-year-old at the heart of defence, the Clarets are unlikely challengers for a European spot. They have the joint-best defensive record in the league with City and United (25 goals conceded).

Left-back: Ashley Young

Ashley Young has made the left-back position his own at Old Trafford this season.

The veteran’s accomplished displays earned him a first England call-up since 2013 in the last international break.

Central midfield: Pascal Gross

Gross has provided the driving force behind Brighton’s impressive start to the season. No player outside the “Big Six” has created more goals than the German playmaker.

His vision, composure and passing ability have helped Chris Hughton’s side settle into life in the Premier League.

Central midfield: Kevin De Bruyne

Arguably the best player in the league, De Bruyne delivered another masterclass in Saturday’s 4-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur.

Watching him in full flow is one of the best sights in football right now. He’s directly contributed to 14 league goals this term.

Attacking midfield: Richarlison

Watford’s Brazilian winger has been one of the breakout players of the season. He’s set the league alight with his mazy dribbles and clinical finishing.

The 20-year-old has already been linked to a big-money move to Arsenal, Spurs, Liverpool and Chelsea.

Right-wing: Raheem Sterling

The former Liverpool winger has decisively answered his critics this year. He’s the second top-scorer in the league with 12 goals. He’s scoring big goals at crucial moments too.

Guardiola selected him in a false nine role in the Manchester derby, showing his faith in the 23-year-old.

Left-wing: Mohamed Salah

On his return to England, Mohamed Salah has taken the Premier League by storm.

The Liverpool ace has scored 14 goals already. Most of them have come from cutting inside and finishing on his left foot. Like Arjen Robben before him, defenders know what he’s going to do but are powerless to stop him.

Striker: Harry Kane

Tottenham are almost certainly out of the title race but Harry Kane continues to do what he does best.

He’s got 12 goals so far this season, more than any other striker.
