Australia odds-on to bag third Ashes Test v England at the Waca
Australia are 8/15 favourites to win the third Ashes Test versus England at the Waca.
The hosts lead the Series 2-0, meaning victory in Perth would see them win the Urn.
Joe Root’s England are the 4/1 outsiders to prevail at the famous venue.
The Tourists have a dismal record at the Waca. England have played Ashes cricket at the venue 13 times, but have triumphed just once.
That win came way back in 1978, and given England’s problems so far, a repeat looks unlikely.
An Aussie win at 8/15 looks to be the savvy choice.
They won the second Test in Adelaide by 120 runs, thanks largely to a superb First Innings 126 not out by Shaun Marsh.
The 34-year-old is 6/1 to again top-score for the Baggy Greens in their opening stint with the bat.
Root hit a valiant 67 in England’s second innings last time out, and he’ll need to continue that form again if his side are to have any hope.
The Yorkshireman endured a dismal time of it on his last visit to the Waca, scoring a measly four and a 19.
But with four years added experience, Root is 3/1 favourite to be England’s top first innings runscorer.
Former skipper Alistair Cook is 7/2. The Essex opener has form in Perth, hitting a tidy 72 during the 2013-14 Series.
As for the bowlers, Mitchell Stark is on a high after posting figures of five for 88 in Adelaide.
The 27-year-old is 7/4 favourite to claim the most wickets for the hosts in the opening innings.
James Anderson is in a similar vein of form. The Lancashire ace claimed five for 43 last time out, and is 9/4 favourite to again be England’s most potent bowler in the opening encounter.
