Manchester United could be about to blow their club-record transfer fee to smithereens in their chase of Saul Niguez.

The Atletico Madrid linchpin has been linked with a sensational £134m move to Old Trafford.

Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho has seen star midfielder Paul Pogba miss the last two months with a hamstring injury.

United’s form has nosedived in that time, leaving the Special One anxious to bring in quality additions to support and cover the Frenchman.

Marouane Fellaini, Michael Carrick and Ander Herrara are United’s current central midfield alternatives.

Atletico’s Saul is one of the most sought-after players on the continent, and is still only 22-years-old.

The Spaniard has played every minute in La Liga and the Champions League for Diego Simeone’s side this season.

But he is under contract with the Rojiblancos until 2026, hence the giant £134m price tag.

If United are to challenge for domestic and European honours though, they’re unlikely to be put off by that figure.

The Red Devils return to Premier League duty this weekend, with a home visit from Newcastle United.

Mourinho’s men could be 11 points behind title rivals Manchester City by the time they kick off on Saturday evening, but odds of 2/7 say they see off the Magpies.
