How Raheem Sterling’s become a key player for Man City

The Manchester City squad is packed with talent in attacking areas.

Sergio Aguero is one of the most lethal strikers in the world. Gabriel Jesus is Brazil’s first-choice number nine at just 20-years-old.

There’s Kevin De Bruyne, David Silva and Leroy Sane too. But it’s Raheem Sterling who’s the club’s top scorer with 12 goals in all competitions this season.

The winger saved the day with a late winner against Huddersfield Town on Sunday to rack up City’s 18th straight win (including penalties). He’d also won the penalty for City’s first goal at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Sterling often seems to attract criticism. The Terriers’ support booed him throughout the game because they felt he went down too easily for the penalty.

But the former Liverpool star shrugged it off and had the last laugh.

It wasn’t too long ago that Sterling was linked with a move to Arsenal as part of a deal for Alexis Sanchez. He seems to have used that as motivation. And it’s clearly paying off.

It’s only November but the 22-year-old’s already topped his previous highest tally of goals in a season.

He’s looking clinical in front of goal. He’d often waste chances before, now he’s hitting the back of the net regularly.

His movement has improved too. His winner on Sunday was lucky but it came about because he was in a position where he could cause problems.

Pep Guardiola believes there’s still plenty more to come from Sterling too. That’s a worrying thought for the rest of the league.

Sterling is 23/20 to score Anytime in City’s next game against Southampton on Wednesday.
