England can secure quarter-final place with French rout on Sunday

After a win and a loss from their opening two games Down Under, England will confirm their place in the quarter-final of the Rugby League World Cup by beating France this Sunday.  

Wayne Bennett’s side are currently locked on two points with Lebanon going into the final round of pool fixtures.

But after beating the Lebanese in their second pool game, England will secure the runners-up spot if they can justify their 1/100 favourites tag against the French.

With France priced up at 40/1 and the tie at 125/1, it’s probably fair to say that this game should go only one way.

And with there being no value in the England win by itself, we think it’s worth looking towards the handicap market for some tasty looking odds.

Four out of the last five times these nations have met England have prevailed by 30 points or more.

It’s 8/13 for that scenario to unfold again on the Alternative Handicap. However, if you fancy France to continue to ship points – they’ve had 81 go against them so far – you can get England on a -34 Handicap at even-money.

In terms of tryscorers, Jermaine McGillvary opened the scoring against Australia in the first pool match and ran in the second try against Lebanon.

After being cleared of biting an opponent last time out, he looks to be England’s most potent threat going forward.

You can get him at 5/1 to be the first tryscorer against France, with Stefan Ratchford and Mark Percival next at 7/1 and 8/1 respectively.
