Winx priced up for wide-margin Turnbull Stakes success

Wonder-mare Winx remains the heavy odds-on favourite to land the Turnbull Stakes at Flemington on Saturday.

The six-year-old is 1/6 to secure her 21st straight success when she makes her debut at the Melbourne course.

With no value in the outright market, we’ve priced up the six-year-old to win by over 2.5l at 6/5.

Meanwhile, it’s the same price that she wins by 2.5l or under.

She’s landed her last three wins by under 2l each time, but stepped back up in trip to what is perhaps her favourite distance, we’re expecting Chris Waller’s charge to hack up.

If she does, connections may fancy a tilt at Royal Ascot in 2018.

We’ve got her at 3/1 to win any race at the meeting next June.

If you want to oppose her on Saturday, however, then Humidor is next best at 10/3.

The Irish-bred raider has won nine times in 63 starts and is making his debut down under.

Ventura Storm is 20/1 and has some black-type pedigree having landed a Group 1 at San Siro last year.

But with two heavy defeats to his name this season it’s probably not worth touching the four-year-old here.

Sir Isaac Newton is 28/1, while Assign, Magicool and Skyfire are 80/1, 150/1 and 250/1 respectively.

Nicola McGeady of Ladbrokes said: “It’s not a case of if Winx will win on Saturday, but my how many lengths, and although we are divided, money suggests it will be over 2.5 lengths.”
