West Ham must now use Tottenham comeback to boost Prem hopes

West Ham United produced a sensational fightback to beat Tottenham Hotspur this week – and now they must build on that momentum.
The Hammers were 2-0 down at half-time to high-flying Spurs, but an Andre Ayew brace and an Angelo Ogbonna winner sealed a remarkable turnaround.
The result may yet save Slaven Bilic his job, and it can become a springboard to a much-needed Premier League improvement.
West Ham sit 16th after nine games, and are only outside of the relegation zone on goal difference.
On paper the squad is easily capable of a mid-table or even lower top-half finish. But they’re yet to show that ability in the league.
However, they did, finally, show some grit and determination at Wembley on Wednesday night.
It was a huge result for the Hammers. They were completely down and out at half-time, away at arguably the second-best side in the country right now.
So to take advantage of Tottenham’s lapses, turn the game around, net three goals and book their place in the quarter-finals will be a massive morale boost for the Irons.
But it will count for nothing unless they take that momentum now into the league.
And they’ve got an excellent opportunity to do so when they travel to Crystal Palace this Saturday.
The Eagles ended their goal and points rut with a surprise victory at home to Chelsea.
But they returned to their lacklustre form in a dull 1-0 loss at Newcastle United last time out.
This is a huge game for both sides. Before last night the Eagles will have fancied themselves.
But momentum and morale is a huge and often underplayed factor in football. And right now all of that lies with the Hammers.
Bilic’s men go into the clash as 11/5 outsiders, but their tails are up for the first time this season and they might just be the punt of the weekend.
