Watford are the best of the rest without the Premier League’s top-six

With 12 points from their opening seven games, it’s fair to say that Watford have enjoyed an excellent start to the season.
The Hornets have only lost once in the league – and even that was against a rampant Manchester City.
Marco Silva has got the Hertfordshire side playing excellent football and crucially picking up points.
And that has us wondering.
What is the limit for Watford this season?
The top-six may be out of bounds on a purely financial basis, but there’s no reason why the Hornets can’t be the best of the rest.
Our traders have got them at a handy 7/1 in the Without the Big Six Market. Even to Finish in the Top Half, they’re still a hugely backable 11/8.
Looking through their team it’s difficult to back against the Hornets.
They’re increasingly assured defensively, have plenty of creativity in midfield and certainly do not lack goals up-front.
Throughout the team, there’s individual talent shining through.
For many people’s money midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure has been one of the stars of the season so far.
The 24-year-old’s impressive use of the ball has garnered plenty of plaudits. In fact, he’s completed the second highest number of passes of any player outside the top-six.
It’s the speed at which he switches the play which makes Watford a joy to watch.
He’s joined in the midfield by Etienne Capoue, Andre Carrillo and summer sensation Richarlison to create the perfect balance between defence and attack.
Their back line isn’t too shabby either.
Kiko Femenia has shone since joining from Alaves in the summer, combining defensive duties with his impressive attacking instinct down the right-hand side.
And with Jose Holebas, Andre Mariappa and Christian Kabasele in support, the Hornets have the makings of good defensive unit.
Link all of those aspects together and it’s easy to see why Watford have been resurgent away from home.
Prior to Silva’s arrival, they’d not won in seven matches on the road under former manager Walter Mazzarri.
Under Silva they’re unbeaten in four away from Vicarage Road, winning three.
And with form at home almost certain to improve as the Portuguese gets more comfortable in their surroundings, you wouldn’t bet against the Hertfordshire club recording their best league finish since finishing runners-up in the 1982-83 season.
