Rafael Nadal is the strong favourite to win this week’s Paris Masters.

The Spaniard is the only member of the so-called ‘big-four’ to feature in the French capital this week.

Both Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic have curtailed their seasons early to focus on recuperation and preparation for 2018.

And Roger Federer withdrew from the event shortly after winning the Swiss Indoors title in Basel last weekend.

So Nadal goes into the event as 6/4 favourite.

The tournament is the final chance for a number of players to book their spot in the ATP Finals at London’s O2 Arena.

World number one Nadal secured his place long ago, having won the French and US Opens this year.

Nadal will begin his Paris challenge in the second round against South Korean 21-year-old Chung Hyeon.

Meanwhile, fellow Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta is one of the players still looking to secure a place in London.

The 26-year-old enjoyed his best year yet as far as the Slams were concerned, reaching the last eight in the French Open before a semi-final run at Flushing Meadows.

But he’s likely to face Nadal in the fourth round.

And that could open the door for crowd favourite Juan Martin del Potro.

The Argentine is still on the road to recovery after years of injury problems.

But he reached the final in Basel last time out, and reached the last four in Flushing Meadows.

Having missed several events this year though, Del Potro must reach the semi-finals in Paris to have a chance at making the London showpiece.
