Man City keen on January move for Southampton’s defensive ace

Despite their sensational recent form, there’s still one area of concern for Manchester City fans. The club are without a recognised left-back following Benjamin Mendy’s serious knee injury. But a solution could be at hand, in the form of Ryan Bertrand.

Pep Guardiola is reportedly keen on a January move for the 28-year-old, who has been highly impressive during his time at Southampton.

The full-back left boyhood club Chelsea for the Saints in 2014, and has racked up 115 appearances on the South Coast since.

He enjoyed the best season of his career last term. The Southwark native chalked up three goals and five assists, as well as a series of impressive defensive displays as Southampton finished eighth in the Premier League and reached the EFL Cup Final.

That’s unsurprisingly piqued the interest of Prem rivals, and it’s Man City who currently look the most likely to secure his signature.

With Saints’ asking price believed to be £30m, a Citizens side who spent £224m in the summer are unlikely to balk at that sort of figure.

For now, the current Man City crop are eyeing up a 10th successive win in all competitions as they host Napoli on Wednesday night. There’s 4/7 on offer for the North-West giants to take maximum points yet again.
