ITV Racing Tips: O’Brien’s Warrior can battle to Group 1 victory

With jump racing from Cheltenham and flat action from Newbury and Doncaster, ITV Racing has something for everyone this weekend.

The highlight of a packed nine-race card on ITV4 is the Group 1 Racing Post Trophy Stakes, where Aidan O’Brien’s Saxon Warrior is the favourite.

Can O’Brien break Bobby Frankel’s Group 1 winners record this weekend?

Answering that question and more, it’s this weekend’s ITV Racing Tips…

NAP – Saxon Warrior – 15:25, Doncaster

Saxon Warrior is the favourite for the Racing Post Trophy Stakes and he’s the favourite for a reason.

The famous O’Brien-Ryan Moore combination team up once again for what could be a comprehensive victory over 1m.

He hacked up to land the Group 2 Beresford Stakes last time out and the feeling is we’re yet to see the best of the two-year-old.

This will be his first time on good ground and that should be a plus for the son of Galileo, who has won twice on soft and yielding ground so far.

With the markets already casting favourable glances towards the Warrior for next year’s Classics, we’re expecting him to do the business in this one.

NB – Mythical Magic – 14:50, Newbury

In what should be an intriguing Group 3 sprint run over 7f, it’s Mythical Magic that gets the nod.

Charlie Appleby’s three-year-old wasn’t disgraced last time out in the Group 1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere at Chantilly. And that run should hold him in good stead here.

Add to that he finished comfortably ahead of fellow contender Dream Today when third in the Champagne Stakes at Doncaster last month and the son of Iffraj looks the one to be on this Saturday.

The ground suits, the jockey (James Doyle) is positive and that makes this progressive type our NB on Saturday.

Lively Longshot – Cobra De Mai – 15:10, Cheltenham

We switch to the jumps for our lively longshot, with Cobra De Mai backed to do the business over 2m for Dan Skelton.

The five-year-old got over the line on his seasonal reappearance at Sedgefield last time out and has won three out of four when chasing.

It’s a wide-open contest, but after defying odds of 9/1 to land a Class 4 last time out, the selection is taken to do well in a Class 2 contest on ideal ground.
