Few Manchester United fans will know the name Alvaro Garcia, but that could be set to change very soon. Reports emerging from Spain suggest the Cadiz winger is Jose Mourinho’s top target in the January window.

Grada 3 are reporting that United are ready to trigger the player’s £7.2m release clause. With that clause set to increase to £13.4m if the Andalucian club are promoted to La Liga this term, it’s a deal the Red Devils will look to pull off sooner rather than later.

So, who is the little-known winger in question?

A product of the Granada youth setup, the diminutive wizard featured briefly in La Liga before leaving for second-tier Racing Santander in summer 2014.

Having taken a while to settle, he went on to produce some excellent displays – and goals – for a poor side who eventually succumbed to relegation by a single point.

However, it’s since joining Cadiz that the left winger has shown his real potential, tying defences in knots with his pace, trickery, and ability to produce a top-drawer finish.

The Utrera native helped Submarino secure promotion from the third tier in 2015-16, bagging nine goals along the way. And the 24-year-old quickly answered any questions about how he’d handle the step back up to Segunda Division…

He chalked up an eye-catching 11 assists en route to the club’s best league finish for a decade, as well as netting crucial winners against the likes of Rayo Vallecano and Girona.

While it’s quite a step up from the Estadio Ramon de Carranza to Old Trafford, the player is certainly continuing to improve year on year. Don’t be surprised if he not only joins the Red Devils ranks, but also flourishes in the Premier League.

As for the current Man United crop, they head to Anfield to face Liverpool on Saturday lunchtime. There’s 13/8 on offer for Mourinho’s men to enjoy a fourth victory in six visits to this part of Merseyside.
