Hamilton homes in on F1 title after supreme America win

Published:

Lewis Hamilton moved one step nearer to the 2017 World Championship with a convincing victory in the USA Grand Prix.

The Mercedes ace topped all three practice sessions, bagged pole position and then cruised to his ninth win of the year during a dominant weekend in Austin, Texas.

Title rival Sebastian Vettel limited the damage by finishing second.

But Hamilton now holds a 66-point lead over the Ferrari driver, with just three races and 75 points left to play for.

Barring a disastrous run of fortune, 32-year-old Hamilton will win his fourth world championship this season.

And he could do so this weekend in Mexico.

A top-five finish is all the Stevenage-born star needs. The title will also be his if Vettel fails to finish in the top two.

Having won five of the last six races – finishing second in the other – Hamilton is very much the form man.

Our traders make him 8/11 to win a 10th race of the campaign this Sunday in Mexico City.

Vettel is 5/2, with Max Verstappen in the mix at 6/1.

Hamilton’s team-mate Valtteri Bottas is 10/1, with Daniel Ricciardo and Kimi Raikkonen the only other realistic contenders at 12/1.
