Germany are on course to lift the World Cup 2018 trophy in Russia. At least, that’s the verdict of Ladbrokes customers.

Joachim Low’s men have been backed more than any other country in the outright market, with the bookies set for a hefty payout if Die Mannschaft come good on their odds of 5/1.

France are the second most popular choice, with a number of Ladbrokes punters piling into the 1998 winners, who are currently priced up at 6/1.

They’re followed by England, with Gareth Southgate’s 20/1 shots narrowly ahead of Spain and Brazil as far as our customers are concerned.

However, it’s the amount of bets on 750/1 outsiders Northern Ireland which has really caught the eye. Michael O’Neill’s Green and White Army have had more backers than the likes of Belgium and Argentina.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “It’s easy to see why Germany and France lead the way in terms of bets placed, but it looks as though plenty of optimistic Home Nations supporters already have World Cup fever with England and Northern Ireland apparently right in the mix!”
