German Darts Masters: Can Michael van Gerwen return to form?

After crashing out of the last two TV tournaments at the first round stage, Michael van Gerwen is in desperate need of a good run in the German Masters.
The two-time world champion lost out in the group stage of the Champions League of Darts.
And he followed that up with an even more shocking first-round defeat to John Henderson at the World Grand Prix in Dublin earlier this month.
Despite those setbacks, our traders have priced MVG up as the 8/11 odds-on on favourite to return to form in Germany.
However, he’ll face strong competition from Gary Anderson, who is 9/2 to lift his third World Series tournament of the year.
Anderson has been playing well in 2017 and after finishing as runner-up in the Champions League of Darts in September, we think he provides good value as a front-running alternative to Van Gerwen.
If the Flying Scotsman is to lift the trophy, he’ll likely have to overcome compatriot Peter Wright (13/2) in the semi-finals.
Snakebite faces Dragutin Horvat (150/1) in the first round and will be looking for an extended run after winning just one PDC tournament of any kind since May.
Further down the field, Phil Taylor can’t be ruled out at generous odds of 8/1.
But it’s the prices of the PDC’s two in-form players that intrigue us most.
After winning the Champions League of Darts and reaching the semi-final of the World Grand Prix, Mensur Suljovic is available at 22/1 for his first Masters success.
Meanwhile, Daryl Gurney, who won in Dublin earlier this month, is slightly longer at 25/1.
The pair are the most consistent players on the circuit at the moment and are worthy each-way shouts if nothing else.
With none of the front-runners currently living up to expectation, it could be worth taking on the favourites for a third tournament in a row.
Elsewhere, Raymond van Barneveld will expect to be in contention, even at 50/1, while James Wade and Kyle Anderson round out the PDC representatives at 100/1.
Of the home contenders, 2015 World Youth Champion Max Hopp has the most quality and is 150/1 for a shock tournament win.
