After six weeks of sensational Strictly Come Dancing action, there’s officially nothing to choose from between the two main contenders.

For the first time this series, leading pair Alexandra Burke and Aston Merrygold both head the betting at 5/2.

Merrygold had been the long-time market leader, but Broken Heels singer Burke has cha-cha’d her way to the front of the queue after a string of dazzling displays.

Her tip-top Charleston on Saturday night curried even more favour with the audience, that despite a hauntingly good performance from Merrygold.

Fellow fancy Gemma Atkinson hasn’t given up the ghost just yet and is 4/1 to win the Glitterball Trophy.

She’s followed by Debbie McGee, who has been cut into 5/1 from 7s after a table-topping performance during the Halloween themed show.

We’ve then got a jump to Joe McFadden at 12/1 before Jonnie Peacock comes in at 16/1.

Meanwhile, Mollie King will need to be devilishly good if she’s to defy odds of 20/1.

The 30-year-old singer started the series as second-favourite but has seen her odds tumble after a sequence of disappointing performances.

Davood Gadami and Susan Calman are 25/1 and 50/1 shots respectively, while Ruth Langsford rounds-out the betting at 100/1.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “Aston looked to have been running away with it in terms of bets placed on the outright winner, but with Alexandra leapfrogging him it now looks as though the value is on her winning at 5/2.”
