Albion Rovers boss is League 1 Manager of the Month for September

Published:

Albion Rovers boss Brian Kerr has won the Ladbrokes League 1 Manager of the Month Award for September.

The Cliftonhill outfit took nine points from their four games during the period, racking up an eye-catching 10 goals in the process.

That included victories at Arbroath (4-1) and Alloa Athletic (5-2), to maintain the Wee Rovers’ 100% away record in League 1 this term.

We caught up with the gaffer to discuss his side’s recent fine form, starting with the 2-1 victory over current table-toppers Raith Rovers, which began the month.

Kerr explained: “We had concerns about our home form so it was massive to put it right and no better way to put it right by beating Raith Rovers who were the form team.

The gaffer sees the Wee Rovers’ recent improvement as proof of their willingness to dig in and grind out results, saying:

“I think the players always had the belief but it was a case of doing the dirty side of the game a bit better.”

And the magnanimous manager was keen to give the praise to those around him, telling us:

“One of the keys for me is that club allowed me to put a backroom team in place and this award is as much for them – assistant Stuart Malcolm, sports scientist Mark Farrell, goalkeeping coach Lindsay Hamilton and John McGurk our physio.”

The club have also had a recent publicity boost thanks to a name-check from Sky Atlantic – and as far as Kerr is concerned, that’s good news for his upwardly mobile side.

He told us: “Any publicity for our club is great and when you get mentioned on a Twitter account that’s got more than 200,000 followers, it’s brilliant.”

There’s every chance Albion Rovers will continue to gather attention if their impressive recent form continues.

Kerr and co. travel to East Fife on Saturday, looking to maintain their outstanding away form.
