Tour Championship: Spieth and Johnson eye FedEx glory and a mega payday

The Tour Championship marks the conclusion of this year’s PGA Tour – and it means someone will win the FedEx Cup.
A mighty $10m cheque is awaiting the winner, meaning the 30-man field will be giving their all this week at East Lake in Georgia.
Historically speaking, those who win the Tour Championship have also won the FedEx Cup, but in 2009 Tiger Woods was crowned champion despite not winning the final event.
And given the points system in use, most of this weekend’s contenders have a great shot at winning both titles.
So it should make for a thrilling four days of action on the fairways and greens.
Jordan Spieth is 5/1 favourite to win the event, and the American also leads the FedEx Cup points standings too.
The Open winner has been in decent form during this play-off series, finishing second in both the Northern Trust and DELL Technologies Championships.
And having followed that up with a T7 at the BMW Championship last time out, this 2015 FedEx champion will be tough to beat.
But plenty will fancy Dustin Johnson to do just that, after the American landed the Northern Trust last month.
It was a significant win as it was DJ’s first since injuring his back in a fall in preparation for the Masters. He sits third in the FedEx standings, and is 7/1 to claim the season-ending event.
Rickie Fowler is next at 8/1. The American has endured another year of ‘so near yet so far’ when it comes to the Majors.
But he was T2 last weekend in the BMW and becoming FedEx Cup champion could be the perfect platform to landing one of the big four next year.
Justin Thomas and Jon Rahm are each 11/1 to win big this weekend.
Thomas sits second in the standings, while Spain’s Rahm is also in contention for what would easily be either player’s biggest achievement to date.
Both men are in good form too. Thomas won the DELL Championship, while Rahm has posted a T3, T4 and T5 in the play-off tournaments this year.
England’s Justin Rose will be in the mix, if recent form is anything to go by. The 14/1 shot will surely appeal having posted T10, T10 and a T2 in this FedEx series.
And 18/1 shot Marc Leishman will be one to watch too.
This year’s Arnold Palmer Invitational champion missed the cut in the Northern Trust, but is bang in form now with T3 in the DELL, before landing victory last time out in the BMW.
