Premier League weekend Winners and Losers: Man United trip up at Stoke

After ten days off, the Premier League returned in sensational style, with some cracking action over Saturday and Sunday.

Manchester City, Chelsea, Watford and Arsenal all had big wins, while Liverpool suffered their first defeat of the season.

We take a look at the Winners and Losers of round four of England’s elite league.

Winners

Manchester City

Much was expected of the lunch-time kick off between Manchester City and Liverpool.

Pep Guardiola vs Jurgen Klopp. Orchestral football vs Heavy Metal football.

By 14:30, Beethoven was playing bass guitar as Man City destroyed their Premier League rivals, running up a 5-0 scoreline.

The Citizens played some sumptuous football to cut the Reds open time after time.

With those three points, Guardiola’s team are now level on points with their neighbours, Manchester United, at the top of the table.

Chelsea

Antonio Conte’s side won their third game on the bounce with victory against Leicester City.

Goals from Alvaro Morata and N’Golo Kante saw the Blues take all three points at the King Power Stadium.

After that disastrous opening day defeat against Burnley, the West London club sit perched a point behind Manchester clubs, United and City, in third.

Watford

Watford will have had one hell of a season if they manage to hold onto their current position come May.

The Hornets are still unbeaten and currently lie in fourth – a Champions League spot.

Marco Silva’s side eased to a comfortable 2-0 win at St. Mary’s against Southampton.

The former Hull City manager has his team playing some superb football. ‘How long can they keep it going?’ is the question.

Losers

Everton

After shelling out on over £100m worth of talent, Everton supporters will be disappointed with their start to the season.

Soundly beaten by fellow top-four challengers Tottenham Hotspur, Ronald Koeman’s team have just one win from their opening four games and look a little unbalanced.

Much improvement is needed if they are to challenge for Champions League football.

AFC Bournemouth

Four games, four defeats – it doesn’t look good for Eddie Howe and Bournemouth right now.

The Cherries were easily beaten by a struggling Arsenal at the Emirates, barely laying a glove on the Gunners.

Having scored just one goal so far, while conceding an average of two a game, it’s clear issues lie at both ends of the squad.

A quick turnaround is needed otherwise their three-season-stay in the league could come to an end.

Manchester United

It’s arguable that Manchester United have failed their first reasonable test of the season.

Having strolled to three wins from their first three games, the Red Devils dropped two points with a 2-2 draw at Stoke City.

While it’s all good hammering the likes of Swansea City and West Ham United, a big result at the Potters would have shown what Jose Mourinho’s side was really about.

It looks like there’s still a bit of work to do.
