Odds suggest Federer and Nadal are cruising into the quarter-finals
This year’s US Open has thrown up surprises left, right and centre. But Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal have risen above it all.
The pair are in fourth round action tonight, and amazingly, are two of just four top-11 seeds left in the competition.
Federer is looking to win his sixth US Open crown, and has already bagged the Australian Open and Wimbledon titles this year.
The Swiss maestro takes on Austria’s Philipp Kohlschreiber in early hours, and is 1/7 favourite to win.
The head-to-head record reads a dominant 11-0 in Federer’s favour, and a straight sets victory is unsurprisingly odds-on at 5/6.
As for French Open champion Nadal, he takes on Alexandr Dolgopolov, a man who has caused problems for the Spaniard in the past.
The Ukrainian has won two of the pair’s last three meetings, and a small wager may appeal with Dolgopolov the 4/1 outsider.
But 2017 has proven to be a renaissance year for Nadal (and Federer), with the 15-time Slam champion producing some of his best tennis.
Whoever wins that will take on the victor of David Goffin versus Russian sensation Andrey Rublev.
The 19-year-old Rublev knocked out Grigor Dimitrov in the second round, and is 13/8 to cause another upset and defeat Belgium’s Goffin.
Juan Martin del Potro versus Dominic Thiem is arguably the best match-up of the night, however.
The Argentine won this event in 2009, and is continuing his recovery from injury, while Austria’s Thiem is tipped for big things in the future.
