Newcastle v Liverpool: Rampant Reds can see off Magpies

Published:

Sunday sees the return of one of the Premier League’s most iconic fixtures in Newcastle United v Liverpool.

The Reds arrive on Tyneside off the back of a 1-1 draw with Spartak Moscow in the Champions League.

Newcastle will be looking to get back on track after a defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion last time out.

Jurgen Klopp will most likely make changes to his starting XI here after a long flight home from Russia in midweek.

Simon Mignolet should return between the posts while Saido Mane is back after a three-game ban.

For the Magpies, Aleksandar Mitrovic is back in the squad after serving his own three-match suspension.

The home side are outsiders with odds of 18/5 about the win, while Liverpool are favourites at 7/10, with the draw at 29/10.

Mane’s return to the Liverpool side cannot be understated.

With the Senegal star in the startingng XI, the Reds won 68% of last season’s games, compared to 42% when he was absent or on the bench.

He’s 11/8 to score anytime and that’s a bet we love.

The Merseyside outfit’s performances haven’t garnered the points they’ve deserved, either.

Defensive frailties have let them down during the course of battering opposing teams.

If they can keep it relatively tight, the 7/10 about the away win looks value against a newly-promoted side.

Goals could be on the menu here, too. There have been over 2.5 goals scored in Liverpool’s last 4 Premier League away games.

Newcastle have failed to score in just one of their home games so far. And that was to the defensively-sound Tottenham Hotspur.

Liverpool will more than likely give up opportunities in this so the 4/6 on Both Teams To Score looks a banker.

However the 11/5 on Both Teams To Score and Liverpool to win looks a more tempting proposition.
