McIlroy and Garcia favourites for Masters, but the value is elsewhere

Rory McIlroy Golf odds

The British Masters takes place this week, with Rory McIlroy leading the betting as 8/1 favourite.

The Northern Irishman is followed in the market by US Masters champion Sergio Garcia at 10/1.

But McIlroy has endured a dismal 2017 thanks to injury, while Garcia is winless since that famous play-off success at Augusta.

So it may be worth looking a little further down the order for a winner at Close House Golf Club in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne.

Alexander Noren will certainly appeal at 14/1.

The Swede is the reigning champion having prevailed at The Grove 12 months ago.

The 35-year-old has enjoyed a solid season, winning the BMW PGA Championship in May. Noren’s bagged four other top-ten finishes this year too, including sixth at the Open.

The Close House course should reward the intricate and accurate style of Ian Poulter.

The 25/1 shot always likes to bring his best form on home soil, and the Englishman is in reasonable form having made his last 14 cuts.

Poulter won’t know the Tyneside venue quite like Lee Westwood.

This year’s host knows Close House inside out, and will be a popular choice this week at 25/1.

The form man however, is arguably Englishman Eddie Pepperell.

The 26-year-old’s last three tournaments read 3/5/5, and if he can maintain that form then he looks a great option at 40/1.

Martin Kaymer (50/1) Alexander Levy (66/1) Graeme MacDowell (80/1) and Jamie Donaldson (125/1) are all capable of turning it on when the conditions suit, too.
