They’re locked at the top of the Premier League table with identical stats, but only one of Manchester United and Manchester City can win the battle for Lazio ace Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

Right now, it’s the Red Devils who are 2/1 favourites for his signature, with Pep Guardiola 4/1 to lure the Serbian to the Ethiad.

The giant midfielder has impressed greatly since joining Le Aquile in 2015, with his displays last term making him one of Serie A’s most prized midfielders. The 22-year-old chalked up seven goals and 10 assists in all competitions for the Stadio Olimpico side.

That’s unsurprisingly grabbed the interest of two of English football’s top clubs, as did the youngster’s performances to help Serbia reach the 2017 European Under 21-Championship.

With European experience already under his belt at Lazio, and having been part of a silverware-winning side at homeland club FK Vojvodina, he also has plenty of pedigree for a player in the early stages of his career.

Milinkovic-Savic’s market value is estimated at £19.8m by Transfermarkt.co.uk. If either club can acquire his services for a sub-£20m price, it would represent a bargain deal in the present market.

If either club are still challenging on domestic and European fronts come the start of the January transfer window, a winter switch to England is very possible.
