Man City 11/4 to sign Tottenham’s defensive rock in January

Man City transfer news

He may be a Manchester City legend, but sooner or later the Sky Blues need to find a successor to Vincent Kompany. And it seems that Pep Guardiola has now identified the ideal replacement – Tottenham Hotspur’s Toby Alderweireld.

The good news for Spurs fans is that he’s at least likely to remain in North London for the rest of this season. It’s 1/4 that the Belgian is still a Lilywhites player at the end of the January window.

However, the 11/4 for the player to join the Citizens in the winter shows that a switch to Manchester is far from impossible. And with former Spurs teammate Kyle Walker already making his mark at the Etihad, it could prove a tempting move for Alderweireld.

As for the player himself, the Belgian has plenty of pedigree. He’s helped Spurs chalk up 36 clean sheets in his 92 games to date.

That’s in addition to featuring in a Champions League Final (for Atletico Madrid), a World Cup Quarter-Final and winning league titles in Spain and the Netherlands.

Despite his injury issues during the past few years, it seems Guardiola is very keen on the Spurs man. If he impresses and keeps fit between now and January, a move to the North-West could look increasingly likely.
