Liverpool fans will have to sweat an extra few hours before they know whether Philippe Coutinho will remain a Reds player.

Barcelona will still have today to complete a deal for the Brazilian as La Liga’s transfer window closes one day after the Premier League.

The 25-year-old playmaker was on international duty last night, scoring in Brazil’s 2-0 win over Ecuador in Porto Alegre.

His international teammate Neymar spoke of Coutinho’s “great sadness”, so it’s quite obvious the ex-Inter Milan forward remains desperate for a move to Catalonia.

However, it’s now being reported on Merseyside that the club is willing to sanction the move next summer.

It would certainly allow Liverpool to prepare for his exit properly while the Rio de Janeiro-born star gets his big move.

It’s clear a mutually beneficial agreement must be in place before he’ll be mentally able to play his best football while still at the club.

Having failed to appear in the Premier League season, citing a mysterious injury, Reds fans will be upset with his miraculous reappearance for the Selecao last night.

Should he remain on Merseyside, it’s imperative that Jurgen Klopp draws a line in the sand regarding the forward’s future.

Otherwise, he risks keeping hold of a player who could possibly become a disruptive influence on the rest of the squad.

It’s certainly one to keep an eye on over the next 12 hours or so.
