Is Paul Scholes close to taking the Oldham Athletic job?

Paul Scholes could be about to take his first managerial role in football, according to our traders.

The Manchester United legend is just 12/1 to be named as John Sheridan’s replacement at Oldham Athletic after the club parted ways with the manager on Monday morning.

It’s the third time Sheridan, the ex-Republic of Ireland international, has been and left the club as its manager.

Scholes – the boyhood Boundary Park regular – reportedly turned down the chance to manage the Latics back in 2015.

But we are now giving him an outside chance of finally taking over the League One outfit.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “It’s no secret that Paul Scholes has a history with Oldham, and the latest odds tell us his boyhood club could be about to give him his first break in management.”

Having already completed his UEFA A Licence last year, it’s only a matter of before the Salford native takes his first steps on the managerial ladder.

Should he become half as good a coach as he did a player, Scholes could become of the greats.
