Transfer news: Cavani to the Premier League? Chelsea lead chase after Neymar spat
Edinson Cavani might be heading for the Paris Saint-Germain exit after his spat with Neymar.
The duo endured a public falling out over who should take a penalty during the side’s 2-0 win over Lyon earlier this week.
And with the French giants spending a world record £220m to sign Neymar from Barcelona this summer, it’s clear that should one of them leave, it won’t be the Brazilian.
The arrival of Kylian Mbappe from Monaco has also added further competition in the French capital.
So where might Cavani go?
Well, Chelsea are the market favourites at 5/1.
The Blues are going well in the Premier League, but it’s widely accepted that Antonio Conte needs a little more quality up front.
He signed Alvaro Morata in the summer, but Michy Batshuayi has yet to convince at the very highest level, leaving the West London side short on forward options.
Everton are a 6/1 shot, and the Toffees are desperately in need of a top-line striker, having failed to find a replacement for Romelu Lukaku.
It would be a major coup to persuade Cavani to make the switch, but the Merseyside outfit are clearly building for the future.
It’s also worth noting that the Uruguay international turns 31-years-old in February, which may deter a number of Europe’s biggest sides – allowing Everton to swoop in.
Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “For all the business the Toffees did in the summer, they failed to find an out-and-out striker, but the latest odds suggest Koeman could see to that in the near future in the shape of one of the most prolific names in world football.”
Manchester United are also in at 6/1, although having signed Romelu Lukaku this summer, it’s difficult to see where Cavani would fit in at Old Trafford.
And it’s a similar story for 8/1 shots Manchester City, who are going great guns right now with Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus.
The forward is valued at £40m by transfermarkt.co.uk, and is under contract at the Parc des Princes until 2020.
So should anyone decide to make a move, the bidding will likely start at £50m.
Cavani joined PSG in 2013 from Napoli, and has scored 139 times in 206 appearances.
He hit a career-best 35 goals in the league last season, ending with 49 from 50 games in all competitions. Cavani is currently on nine goals from eight games this term.
