Aguero hat-trick lays down Golden Boot marker to Kane and Lukaku

Published:

As the Premier League title battle raged on this weekend, Sergio Aguero made his move in the race to win the Golden Boot.

The Argentine bagged a hat-trick in Manchester City’s 6-0 rout of Watford, moving on to five for the campaign.

In doing so, our traders were forced to chop his odds of winning this year’s accolade from 8/1 into just 3s.

That puts the 29-year-old level in the betting with Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane, who failed to score against Swansea City and remained on two for the season.

Romelu Lukaku – with five goals – is the market favourite, but Aguero’s impact has seen the Manchester United striker drift from 9/4 to 11/4.

Certainly those who backed Aguero – the 2014-15 Golden Boot winner – at 8/1 just a few weeks ago will be feeling smug right now.

Aguero’s City team-mate Gabriel Jesus remains in the mix too.

The Brazilian is on four for the campaign, and offers plenty of value at 7/1.

Chelsea’s Alvaro Morata, on three goals so far, is the only other realistic contender at 10/1.

The prices then double to 20/1, where you’ll find Alexandre Lacazette, Jamie Vardy and Sadio Mane.

Arsenal’s Lacazette has already shown his clinical qualities, but the Gunners’ struggles may cost him in the battle for the Golden Boot.

The Frenchman’s odds have already drifted from 11/1.

It’s a similar story for Vardy at Leicester City, while Mane’s three-game suspension for a high-foot on Man City’s Ederson Moraes has seen his odds lengthen from 14/1.
