Wilshere being lined up by Villa as Bruce seeks additions

Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce is rumoured to be interested in signing Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere to bolster a midfield that has failed to impose itself on the Championship.

The England midfielder spent last season on loan at AFC Bournemouth. He intermittently impressed at the Vitality Stadium but broke his leg late in the campaign.

It remains to be seen whether the former Gunners wonder boy would consider dropping down a division to join a Villa side who have struggled for form under Bruce.

The ex-Hull City manager has failed to get the best out of a squad who have been rather expensively assembled.

Not content with signing the likes of John Terry and Christopher Samba, it seems Bruce has decided to add even more experience to a Villa squad that is already brimming with it.

The Mirror have reported that enquiries have been made on the Midlands club’s behalf and that Arsene Wenger would be willing to sell for in the region of £9m.

At this stage in his career, the 25-year-old is at a make-or-break point now. Does he stick at the Emirates, or twist and look for pastures new?
