Scunthorpe winning three-way tussle for Sheffield United hitman

Life is good at Sheffield United right now…unless you’re James Hanson. The January signing has struggled for goals and game time at Bramall Lane. But he could be set for a fresh start, with Scunthorpe United favourites to sign him.

The 29-year-old has played just 14 times since joining the Blades, scoring a solitary goal. But his record at boyhood side Bradford City – 90 goals in 331 games – has seen Hanson establish himself as one of League One’s most reliable marksmen.

At present, it’s the Iron who are 11/8 favourites to snap up the towering striker this summer. Having fallen just short in the play-offs last term, signing a player of Hanson’s pedigree could possibly be the difference-maker at Glanford Park this term.

However, Graham Alexander certainly doesn’t have a free run in the race to snap up the former Bantams ace.

Ambitious League Two side Mansfield Town have also been strongly linked with the Blades forward, and while Scunthorpe is believed to be his preferred destination, Steve Evans’ Stags certainly aren’t out of the picture at 7/4.

Our trading team also aren’t ruling out a return to Valley Parade, with Bradford also 7/4 to bring home the local lad who spent over seven seasons on the Bantams’ books.

There’s little doubt the striker will be drawing a line under a frustrating stint months in South Yorkshire before the window closes. The question is, where is Hanson heading next?
