Odds plummet on Bournemouth and Crystal Palace to be relegated

Published:

After two weekends of the new Premier League season, five teams are yet to pick up a point.

While it isn’t too surprising to see top-tier returnees Newcastle United and Brighton & Hove Albion among that quintet, eyebrows are being raised over Bournemouth and Crystal Palace.

In pre-season the Cherries were handed odds of 11/2 to go down, while the Eagles were 5/1.

But just two weeks in and the pair’s odds for the drop have come tumbling in.

Bournemouth, having lost 1-0 to West Bromwich Albion and 2-0 to Watford so far, are now just 3/1 to go down.

It’s worse yet for Palace. After an opening-weekend 3-0 trouncing at home to newboys Huddersfield Town, the Eagles showed an improved performance on Saturday, but still went home empty handed, losing 1-0 to Liverpool.

They’re now just 9/4 to go down as new boss Frank de Boer looks to implement changes following Sam Allardyce’s tenure.

The Selhurst Park outfit face a huge clash this weekend, when Swansea City come to South London.

At 13/8 for the drop, the Swans are also considered to be among this season’s relegation scrap, and this could be Palace’s chance to get off the mark.

The same cannot be said for Bournemouth, who face a very real prospect of heading into the international break pointless.

That’s because they host Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City in Saturday’s lunchtime game.  Despite being on home soil, our odds have the Cherries as 10/1 underdogs for victory.

Interestingly, though West Ham United are the other side yet to pick up a point, they remain relatively safe in the betting at 7/1.

Brighton are even-money favourites to go down this season, followed by Burnley (6/5) and Huddersfield (11/8).
