German football is playing a key part in the evolution of English football with Norwich City the latest side looking to get in on the action.

After Jurgen Klopp’s arrival as Liverpool boss, followed by his ex-assistant David Wagner with newly-promoted Huddersfield Town, another former Borussia Dortmund coach has rocked up on English shores.

After Alex Neil’s sacking towards the end of last season, Norwich have installed Daniel Farke as their new head coach.

The 40-year-old had impressed hugely as manager of BVB’s second side for the previous two seasons, but when the Canaries came calling, he jumped at the chance.

Carrow Road has been rocking under the German so far this summer, too. They’ve scored 22 goals in just eight pre-season games hitting five in a couple of those games.

Farke’s style of play seems to be in that Dortmund-esque mould of high-octane, free-flowing, possession-based football.

That kind of game served Huddersfield well under David Wagner, while Liverpool fans have few complaints under Klopp, returning to the Champions League spots after a couple of years’ absence.

The up-and-coming gaffer has concentrated his early season transfer business on bringing in Bundesliga talent to consolidate a fairly British and Irish core. He’s also made a savvy loan signing from Southampton, in the form of Harrison Reed.

He has lost young starlet, Jacob Murphy, though, as well as midfield lynchpin, Jonny Howson, which is not ideal.

If Farke can replicate his compatriots effect on the English game, other clubs will increasingly look west for managers of similar traits. It’s not just results these coaches are obtaining, it’s entertainment too.

The Germanification of English football continues apace.
