The upcoming bout between Floyd Mayweather Jr and Conor McGregor is going to break a whole host of betting records, according to the latest reports from our trading floor.

The fight of the century is just days away and we can reveal the amount of money wagered and bets placed will easily make the boxing contest the second single biggest betting event in 2017.

Only the Grand National can top the volume of cash being put down on May-Mac.

Money heads into Saturday’s showdown as the 2/7 favourite but his odds have continued to drift out while The Notorious is backed off the boards. And it’s now just an 11/4 chance the Irishman causes one hell of an upset in Las Vegas.

Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes said: “We’ve never known a boxing match like it, turnover is through the roof and it’s testament to the fight that only the Grand National will see more wagers placed on one event this year.”

She added: “We can’t give Mayweather away for love nor money, and punters are firmly in the McGregor camp whatever the odds on offer.”
