Man Utd and Tottenham ready to go head-to-head for Porto defender

Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are set to go head-to-head for Porto’s highly rated full-back Ricardo Pereira.

Both clubs have sent scouts to watch the 23-year-old, who has spent the last two seasons on loan at Nice.

The versatility of the Portuguese makes him an ideal target for both clubs, although the Red Devils are the early favourites for his signature.

United are still in the market for players and the £20m-rated Pereira could appeal to manager Jose Mourinho.

We still expect a few more additions at Old Trafford, and with around £40m still left in the Mourinho transfer kitty following the breakdown of a move for Ivan Perisic, Pereira could be the next name through the door up in Manchester.

However, Tottenham could beat the Red Devils to the Portuguese’s signature.

Spurs remain short on both flanks, so the adaptability of Pereira to play either at full-back or further up the field will appeal to manager Mauricio Pochettino.

The North Londoners still have plenty of money to spend in the window following the £50m sale of Kyle Walker to Manchester City.

And at £20m, Pereira represents a good bit of business in the current market.

We reckon there’s a good chance that the Lisbon-born man will pitch up at Wembley before the window shuts.
