Manchester United are closing in on the £27m signing of Paris Saint-Germain right back Serge Aurier, according to reports.

Jose Mourinho has been busy remodelling his squad ahead of the new season and sees the Ivory Coast international as the long term successor to the ageing Antonio Valencia.

However, the Red Devils face a battle to tie up the deal as Aurier isn’t currently allowed to enter the UK.

The 24-year-old was found guilty of assaulting a police officer in Paris last September and was denied entry to the UK when PSG played Arsenal in the Champions League in October.

Aurier has lodged an appeal against his conviction in France and his case is due to be heard next week.

Should United complete a deal, it would be their fourth major signing following the arrivals of Romelu Lukaku, Nemanja Matic and Victor Lindelof.

With current right back Valencia turning 32-years-old before the start of the season and Matteo Darmian failing to convince, Aurier’s physicality and work rate are seen as ideal attributes for Mourinho’s new look side.

The former Toulouse man made 22 appearances for Les Parisiens last season but will struggle for game time this year as PSG manager Unai Emery has brought in Dani Alves from Juventus.

PSG are happy to cash in on a player deemed surplus to requirements to help fund a world record move for Barcelona’s Neymar.
