Mahrez to replace Coutinho? Liverpool favourites for Leicester ace
Liverpool are the new favourites to sign Riyad Mahrez from Leicester City this summer.
He handed in a transfer request last month, but the winger is running out of time to leave the 2015-16 Premier League champions.
First the Algerian was supposedly on his way to Arsenal, then it seemed Roma would be Mahrez’s next destination.
But with less than a fortnight of the summer window remaining, the Italian club look to have pulled the plug.
That’s good news for Liverpool though, who are now 7/2 favourites to sign the 2015-16 PFA Players’ Player of the Year.
The Anfield outfit are facing a sustained bid from Barcelona for Philippe Coutinho, who see the Brazilian as their answer to selling Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain earlier this month.
Understandably Liverpool are reluctant to sell their most prized asset.
But should they cash in on Coutinho, Mahrez is readily available and would help ease the blow.
And Liverpool would still be in profit too, with Coutinho poised to leave for £100m, while Leicester are asking £50m for Mahrez.
But Jurgen Klopp may not be the only interested party.
Reigning champions Chelsea have endured a difficult summer, and boss Antonio Conte is known to be seeking three or four more players before the window shuts.
And with the Blues tackling the Champions League too, a player of Mahrez’s calibre is likely to be on the Italian’s wishlist.
We’re 4/1 Mahrez heads to Stamford Bridge.
Arsenal aren’t totally out of the running yet either, with 5/1 about Arsene Wenger luring Mahrez to the Emirates Stadium.
