Leeds United are looking to mount a serious promotion challenge under new boss Thomas Christiansen, and the Danish boss is closing in on the signature of Hamburg SV striker Pierre-Michel Lasogga to boost their ranks.

The German striker is even-money to join the Whites this summer – and despite a difficult 2016-17, he’d represent a good addition.

Admittedly, he did record a meagre two goals last term. But look past one iffy campaign, and you’ll find a promising hitman with an impressive record.

Lasogga has hit double figures in the German top-flight in three different seasons, and also has promotion-winning experience…which could prove vital in West Yorkshire.

That came at Hertha BSC, as he helped one of the country’s most well-supported clubs return to their place in the top tier, netting 13 times in 2.Bundesliga. Leeds fans will rightly be dreaming of a repeat of that feat if he joins this summer.

However, there is concern surrounding this move in the Elland Road faithful, with some fearing that Lasogga’s potential arrival could see the sale of star striker Chris Wood, who top-scored in the Championship last term with 30 goals.

So, those of a Leeds persuasion will be watching on with bated breath to see just who starts up front in Saturday’s meeting with Preston North End.

The hosts are an even-money shot to win at Elland Road, while 3-0 and 4-1 routs of PNE last term make the Leeds -1 handicap look great value at 29/10.
