Kane, Aguero and Lukaku lead charge for this year’s Golden Boot

Published:

The 2017-2018 Premier League season is almost upon us, and that means another battle for the Golden Boot.

Tottenham’s Harry Kane has won the famed accolade for the past two seasons, as he proudly reminded everyone this week…

Having hit a Premier League high 0.97 goals-per-game last season,  can the England international join Alan Shearer and Thierry Henry in being the league’s top-scorer for a third-straight year?

Well, our traders make him 3/1 favourite to do so.

As for his challengers, Romelu Lukaku is second in the betting at 4/1.

Having swapped Eveton blue for Manchester United red, the Belgian, on paper at least, should be set to improve on the 25 goals he hit last season.

Lukaku is still seeking his first Golden Boot, which isn’t the case for Manchester City’s 5/1 shot Sergio Aguero.

The Argentine won the award in 2014-15, and has reached 20 goals or more in four of his six seasons with the Citizens.

With Pep Guardiola spending over £200m this summer, is Aguero poised for his first 30+ campaign?

Those three are  very much the favourites, with the odds drifting to Aguero’s team-mate Gabriel Jesus at 9/1.

The Brazilian looks a mighty fine prospect, but having just turned 20-years-old, it might be a season or two too soon before Jesus tops the scoresheets.

That shouldn’t be a problem for Arsenal’s new record-signing Alexandre Lacazette.

The Frenchman hit more than 20 goals in each of his last three years at Lyon, and plenty will fancy him at 10/1 to become the third Arsenal man after Henry and Robin van Persie to win the Golden Boot.

Chelsea’s big summer signing, Alvaro Morata, is also a 10/1 shot.

But the Spaniard has only reached double-figures once during his time with Real Madrid and Juventus, so it remains to be seen what he can achieve this year.

And the only other man shorter than 20/1 to dethrone Harry Kane is Alexis Sanchez at 12/1.

The Chilean, entering the final year of his Arsenal contract, will be out of impress potential suitors this season, but surely his own goal ratio (24 last season) will take a hit now Lacazette has arrived in North London?
