Is Simeone Jnr about to become Tottenham’s first summer signing?

Published:

While their Premier League title rivals spend, spend, spend, Tottenham Hotspur have been remarkably quiet so far this summer.

That could be about to change though, with reports linking Spurs with a move for Genoa’s Giovanni Simeone.

The striker – son of Atletico Madrid manager Diego – enjoyed a breakout campaign last term, netting 11 times from 30 Serie A games.

And it appears the 22-year-old’s performances have done enough to impress the Tottenham hierarchy.

Spurs may have Harry Kane to fire in the goals up top, but when it comes to alternative options, they’re a little stuck.

Vincent Janssen didn’t offer much following his arrival from Ajax last season, so Simeone would bring a welcome dose of competition to Tottenham’s front line.

It’s 3/1 the hotshot striker joins Mauricio Pochettino’s side this summer.

But Tottenham aren’t alone in the betting, with Fiorentina (5/1) and Torino (6/1) also in the hunt.

Spurs may face Premier League competition too, with Crystal Palace also believed to be keen on the Spanish-born Argentine.

The Eagles built their game around Christian Benteke last term, but it appears new boss Frank de Boer is eager to add tactical flexibility.

Odds of 9/1 suggest Palace will have their work cut out to sign Simeone, however.

Simeone isn’t the only man linked with Tottenham this week either, with Schalke’s Max Meyer again connected with a move to North London.

The German has long-been linked with Spurs, and at just 21-years-old, already boasts 17 goals and 17 assists in the Bundesliga.

A technically sound winger who can play in a multitude of offensive roles, he ticks plenty of Pochettino’s boxes.
