How will Tottenham fare in the cup competitions this season?

By the time the next piece of silverware is handed out it will have been 10 years since Tottenham Hotspur last won a major trophy.
For a club with Spurs’ ambition that’s too long.
The class of 2008 contained the likes of Tom Huddlestone, Teemu Taino and Alan Hutton, and it’s fair to say the North Londoners have improved since those days.
So what are the chances of this year’s crop claiming a major trophy?
Their best opportunity looks to be in the FA Cup.
For one, they’re playing home fixtures this season at the competition’s final venue, which should give them an early advantage if they reach the latter stages.
And despite not having won the famous old trophy since 1991, Tottenham are inextricably linked with the Wembley showpiece.
We can easily see Christian Eriksen repeating that Paul Gascoigne free-kick in ’91 or Dele Alli producing a Ricky Villa type finish a la 1981.
Ok, maybe not quite, but you get the gist.
Spurs have one of the best teams in England and Pochettino is itching to get his hands on his first piece of major silverware as a manager.
With that in mind we fancy Tottenham to be up for the Cup at 8/1.
If you like the North Londoners to repeat their EFL Cup triumph 10 years on from their last trophy win, we have them at an enticing 10/1.
Most teams tend to go with youth in the EFL Cup, and given Spurs’ proficiency for blooding academy players, it may not be a bad shout.
However, if you like your odds long and your returns high, a domestic double is priced handsomely at 40/1.
On the European stage, this Spurs side now has enough experience to be able to go toe-to-toe with the continents finest.
For that reason – and given their impressive results against Europe’s giants in pre-season – their 40/1 Champions League odds look grossly overpriced.
