Crystal Palace and Southampton consider RB Leipzig youngster

Crystal Palace and Southampton could be set for a transfer tug-of-war for RB Leipzig youngster Oliver Burke.

The two Premier League clubs are both said to be interested in the 20-year-old, who has fallen out of favour in Germany.

Burke joined Leipzig from Nottingham Forest for £13m last summer but has found game time limited under coach Ralph Hasenhuttl.

As recently at this weekend the Kirkcaldy-born ace was left out of the Leipzig squad for the season opener at Schalke.

Now a return to England appears likely with Southampton and Crystal Palace the early favourites for his signature, with both clubs at 2/1.

Palace are still looking to strengthen ahead of the close of the transfer window and the powerful winger would represent an excellent bit of business.

Manager Frank de Boer is renowned for placing his trust in youth and the prospect of consistent first team football would no doubt appeal to Burke.

“He is from Great Britain, so it is always interesting to see those kinds of players and he is still very young”, said De Boer.

Meanwhile, Southampton, who have been quiet in the window, could turn to Burke to bolster their attacking options.

Saints have been tracking the Scot alongside Palace and now look set to launch a bid for the player.

It is believed that the winger is available for around £15m – a mere snip in today’s market.

Other suitors for the ex-Forest youngster include Newcastle United (4/1) and Swansea City (6/1).

Both sides still require attacking reinforcements, although a move to the North East currently seems the more likely of the two.
