Coutinho’s Barcelona odds slashed – Liverpool 2/5 to sell star man

Published:

Philippe Coutinho is now his shortest price yet to join Barcelona this summer.

The Liverpool forward was 11/8 to join the Catalan giants on Friday, but those odds have come crashing in to just 2/5.

Barca are yet to force Liverpool’s hand, as they seek a replacement for Neymar, who joined Paris Saint-Germain in a world-record deal last week.

But the odds suggest the La Liga heavyweights are closing in on the Brazilian, despite Liverpool maintaining that he is not for sale.

It’s believed 25-year-old Coutinho could leave Anfield for anything up to £120m.

Reports in Spain claim Barcelona will even send a player in the opposite direction to test Liverpool’s resolve. Andre Gomes is believed to be the man in question.

But selling Coutinho just a week before the new Premier League season begins would be a major blow to Jurgen Klopp’s ambitions, with the forward widely regarded as Liverpool’s finest talent.

Coutinho has spent four years on Merseyside, scoring 42 times from 182 appearances.

Last season was his best yet, as he hit 13 Premier League goals to help Liverpool finish fourth – ensuring a return to the Champions League.

It’s been a difficult summer for the Reds however, who have spent the off-season trying and failing to sign Virgil van Dijk from Southampton.

As for Barcelona, they’re poised to reinvest their Neymar windfall, with our traders going 4/5 that they sign both Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele before the summer window closes.
